Fame Museum displays models of spacecraft and

The Historical
Side of Titusville Florida
There was great
excitement in the community in 1982 in
Titusville Florida when an important
archeological site was discovered at
nearby Windover.
Remains from 160
adult males, females and children were
found at the bottom of a
pond.

The skeletons, going back
to the archaic period, were well preserved
because they had been put into peat ground.
Various artifacts were also found, such as
animal bones, shells, clothing, blankets and
bags.
The area has honored law
enforcement officers by opening the American
Police Hall of Fame and Museum, the first
national museum of its kind in the country.
Visitors can take a short helicopter ride over
the Titusville Florida region or have a go on a
target gun range. There is a memorial in tribute
to officers killed in the line of duty,
including a special 9/11 memorial
tribute.
The Merritt Island
National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area for
animals, fish and birds on land owned by NASA.
There are different types of terrain, including
saltwater estuaries, scrub and dunes to support
the wildlife, some of which is endangered, and
plants. Birds include osprey and bald eagle and
the animals and marine life include sea turtles,
American Alligator, manatees and salamander.
This is an important facility for Titusville
Florida and the surrounding area.
