Church of the
Redeemer and Hurricane Camille Memorial Biloxi,
Mississippi USA - Photo taken before Hurricane
Katrina
The grim story of the
Episcopal church that survived Hurricane Camille
during the disaster on the gulf coast of Biloxi,
Mississippi unfortunately did not escape
Hurricane Katrina. I felt really sick when I saw
the after effects of Katrina on the
King
of Peace
website.
The Episcopal Church of
the Redeemer was founded on August 10, 1851,
Bishop William M. Green
helped to organize the Episcopal Church of the
Redeemer, and the church fianlly earned a
charter by the State of Mississippi in the year
1853.
The Biloxi, Mississippi
memorial remembers the thousands of people who
died during this enormous and destructive storm.
When Hurricane Camille raised her mighty wind
she left in her aftermath a total of 131 people
dead and another 41 who were missing. The names
were inscribed on the granite memorial out from
of the Redeemer church.
The Church of the Redeemer
is a reminder to us that history can be repeated
with the advent of recent gulf coast Hurricane
Katrina which demolished the memorial and left
absolutely nothing of the chruch.
This photo shows that the
Church of the Redeemer was a small church with a
cross on front. I hope it can be rebuilt in all
its glory.
The Episcopal church and
Camille Memorial was located at 610 Water
Street, Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.
