Where are you and yours
headed for the summer? Oh come on, you have to
have a spot picked out where you can just relax
without a care in the world, while lounging in
the sun. We all look for these ideal spots of
refuge from time to time. It's human nature.
For me it's all about the
exploring. I love to venture out with the wife
and kids and go see new places and try new
foods. One of my favorite tourist attractions
that hooked me at first sight is a quaint,
historic town located in South Carolina.
Do the words "Charleston
vacation rentals" mean any thing to you? Yeah,
that's right. Charleston, South Carolina is a
wonderful spot to catch up on some much-needed R
and R. Do you have your sunglasses ready?
Have you looked into
taking a Charleston holiday lately? Man, I tell
you; that place is becoming such a hot spot. Not
that I can dispute the current situation. What
can I say? The place is amazing.
From the cobblestone
streets, to fine seafood dining, to horse and
carriage rides through the downtown, Charleston
has it all. Do you have your Charleston vacation
rentals booked for the summer yet? The last time
I headed down to that little hot spot must have
been five years ago.
I fell in love with the
historic buildings and entertaining shops and
bar scenes. It's such an all-inclusive city.
While it does offer a nice variety of
contemporary and upper-scale shops, it holds a
classic ambiance at the same time. One of my
favorite experiences was the ghost tour or
haunted tour.
I never new that
Charleston, South Carolina had such a ghoulish
past. However, this certainly doesn't take
anything away from its incomparable setting.

A Quick Trip to Charleston
Beaches
I still vividly remember
the first time I ever went to Charleston South
Carolina. It was the middle of winter in
Michigan, and I was hanging out with a friend of
mine. We both had a break from school, and we
were trying to figure out what to do.
When I found out that my
friend had never seen the ocean, it struck me as
a revelation. I wanted him to see it. That very
day, we decided to drive.
The question was whether
to go to the East Coast, or to drive south. The
way the land slopes in the United States, both
drives were about the same distance. We decided
to go to Charleston SC because it was going to
be quite a bit warmer down there. After all, who
wants to go to the ocean just to stand in the
cold wind and shiver?
Once we got down to
Charleston South Carolina, we were overjoyed. It
was absolutely gorgeous. There were beach houses
everywhere. Basically, it combines the laid-back
attitude of a beach front town with the classic
style of a southern city.
The downtown area was a
lot of fun. Even though it was the off-season,
there was still music to be heard. We were not
there for the music, or even for the delicious
ribs, however. We were there to hang out on the
beach.
I have been to nicer
beaches, and I have definitely been on beaches
during nicer weather, but I have never been
quite so overjoyed to be able to pass the
afternoon just sitting out on the sand and
watching the ocean. It was absolutely glorious.
For most of the day, the
weather was mild enough to go in a short sleeved
shirt and shorts. Even when it got cooler, it
was still a lot nicer than Michigan. The ocean
was mellow and soothing down on the Battery. All
in all, it was everything I had hoped for from
that trip.
The Third and Final
Vacation Story
My husband and I try to go
on at least one trip each year. We have visited
many different places, some that we would like
to go back to and others that we probably will
not visit again. Several of our friends go on
the same vacation each year.
They like the routine of
returning to the same place each year. This does
not fit in with our goal to visit each of the
fifty states. We do not have any method to how
we are seeing the country. When we have the time
to take driving trips we are able to cross off
several states at a time; however many of our
trips involve air travel to allow us to spend
more time at the destination once we get
there.
Last year we were deciding
on where we wanted to go. We try to do our
traveling during the time of the year that is
not peak tourist season. A friend of ours told
us that we should visit Charleston SC. They had
been there on a business trip and said that they
enjoyed the city very much.
We had never been to
Charleston or any other city in the state so it
qualified as a destination. We learned that it
is on the ocean so we knew that we wanted to go
before the school year was over. We do not care
if we swim in the ocean; however we love to walk
on the beaches. We decided to fly Raleigh NC and
then rent a car and take a driving trip to
Charleston. This would allow us to see two
states during the same trip.
We were surprised at the
number of farm fields that we drove past during
our trip. The main crops were tobacco and cotton
as well as peanuts. The weather was warm and the
skies were a beautiful blue.
We arrived in Charleston
just in time to see the sun setting on the
ocean. We immediately discovered why our friend
suggested we come. There were many activities
and museums to take in. It is truly a wonderful
city to visit.
Cafes line the waterfront
so you won't go hungry. The wonderful history of
the area is celebrated amongst the modern
conveniences of this modern city. We definitely
placed this on our list as a place that we will
return to.
There are several
additional east coast and southern states we
want to visit including Virginia and maybe
Louisiana. SC seems to have a blending of the
two. You have the feeling of the southern
hospitality along with the hustle and bustle of
the eastern seaboard.
Oh, I may as well tell you
--I bought a beach house reasonably near to
downtown after only looking at a few different
places. I knew right away that it was the
perfect one for me. Now I can go down and enjoy
Charleston South Carolina vacation holiday with
my family anytime I want. There is always a
house waiting for me.
